First Girls Night Out Since Baby!

Hi Mum’s

So last weekend was probably my first proper girls night out having a couple of drinks since my baby was born. My baby girl is almost 1 and I only just now feel comfortable to go out.

I very rarely drink alcohol, mainly just the odd couple on a special occassion and it’s been about two years since I got drunk. My hangovers are horrific and I would need to spend the whole day in bed, which is pretty much impossible when you are practically a single mum with no family around to help!

It felt so nice to get dressed up, do my hair, make up and put on a nice dress however, every time i caught my reflection whilst out I kept thinking how old I look now! Having kids really does make you look haggered lol or perhaps its just from the lack of sleep who knows?

I made it my mission to not talk about my baby girl on this night out as I just wanted to take some me time for once where I wasn’t just a mum. Some of the other mum’s couldnt help themselves talking about their kids though, we should have made it a drinking game, a shot for every time you talked about your kid!

Anyway, even though I didn’t get drunk and was home by 1am, I still had a really nice time. It’s really important to make time for self care and for socialising with your friends or you really will just go insane.

How do you mum’s unwind do you enjoy going out with friends on a night out? Any tips to hide the eye bags?

Back to normal

Hi Mummies

I have two kids aged 2 and 4, my 4 year old goes to nursery but finished on march 15th due to the pandemic. Four months his nursery was closed for and not once did my children get ill when he was off school. He has now been back in nursery for 2 weeks and is already ill he has started coughing and sneezing non stop for the last 2 days and this morning my 2 year old has woken up exactly the same. I dont know if to take him back out as its such a scary time for them to be getting ill. My little boy seems to pick everything up so easily im just not sure if i should take him back out and wait for a little bit but will it be 100% safe to ever send them back? He also starts school this September so ı will have to send him then anyway.

What are all you mummies doing about your childrens schools?

Being Pregnant in a Pandemic

I am due in October and fell pregnant not long after the news broke about coronavirus. I wanted this baby for so long and had been trying for about three years, so when it did happen I wanted to feel excitement and pure joy. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case, of course I was happy and felt so grateful I could finally fall pregnant, but I was so worried what this pandemic would mean for me and my unborn child.

I haven’t been together with my boyfriend for very long, the pressures of trying to conceive with my previous partner got the better of us and we split. I wasn’t very careful with protection with my new partner because part of me thought I couldn’t get pregnant anyway and the other part of me thought I would be made up to be pregnant…

Luckily my boyfriend is over the moon as we are both 30 years old without kids so we felt that the clock was ticking for us.

My experience being pregnant during this pandemic has been very lonely, I wasn’t able to see my mum and my sister who are my rocks and I couldn’t even see my boyfriend because we wasn’t living together.

I have suffered severe sickness throughout my pregnancy so I spent many days just crying at home feeling awful and alone.

The fact I had to have my scans at the hospital was very heartbreaking too as I had waited so long for this moment and I had to experience it alone. My boyfriend is only allowed to see the baby once it’s born and then has to leave straight away! Even talking about this is giving me pure anxiety, as if giving birth isn’t daunting enough.

I don’t want to sound like I am wallowing in self pity but it really has been hard for me but all I wish for is a healthy baby at the end of all this and that this Corona goes away!!!

I would love to hear other mum’s stories who have been pregnant during this pandemic. How was the birth? Was you allowed your partner in the room and at your hospital checks?

House Rennovations with an 11 month old baby

Hi mummies,

Some quick facts about me:

  • married
  • 29 years old
  • English but lives in Turkey
  • mummy of a 11 month old baby girl

So recently we have began doing up the house after realising the layout of our living room and kitchen just isn’t practical for kids who need their space to crawl/walk/run about.

Currently our living room and kitchen are both in one room, and it is SMALL. It was just about manageable when it was just me and my husband but the kitchen was always difficult, with hardly any storage and countertop space.

After both of us working hard and saving up some money we decided to use the 3rd upstairs bedroom as a seperate kitchen and knock out the one in the living room. You’d think it would be fairly straight forward, but let me tell you, in Turkey, IT IS NOT.

We have had about 6 different workmen coming in to do different parts, someone to do the laminate, someone to do the tiling, someone to do the plumbing, someone to do the plastering and painting, someone to trim the front metal door to level so it doesnt scrape along the new flooring, electrician to insert new sockets and someone to build and fit the kitchen.

In Turkey even if you pay with cash in hand, getting people to come and do the work on time is exhausting. Fethiye is quite a smallish city so most people are always busy and you will be fobbed off with dates when things will be ready on a weekly basis.

It has been very stressful with rubble, dust and crap everywhere with a crawling baby who has just been confined to a tiny space in the living room. It’s been over two months now that the house has been turned upside down with only the plumbing and laminate fitted.

All of this has caused so many arguements with me and my husband as he works approx 15 hours a day 6 days a week so getting him to find the time to help get this all done is impossible. I argue with him for coming home so late, for not helping out with the baby and for not making our home his priority. His arguement back is that he is trying to build a future for our family with his new business. I get that I have to support him but it’s also important that there is balance too. I just hope this sacrafice will be worth it one day and that our daughter will have a secure future.

Living in Turkey is difficult, unfortunately I am not as independent as I would like to be or as I would be in the UK due to language barriers and the fact that you get charged different prices to a native. I would love to be able to organise all of this without relying on my husband but If i was to do it I would pay double the price and that’s just not what we can afford, it’s been such a struggle to gather the money for this as it is.

My advice to mamas is PLEASE DO YOUR HOUSE RENNOVATIONS BEFORE YOUR BABY ARRIVES. It has been so stressful getting my baby girl down for naps when there’s drilling going on and not to mention the crap and mess that is left everywhere.

Once all of this is done I will post again with some before and after photos!

Baby Number 2

I am 32 years old and a have a 3 year old little girl and 20 weeks pregnant with another little girl. My daughter has always been the sweetest and well behaved little girl, never had any issues with her but the last 6 weeks she has just changed!! Will not listen to anything I say, bed time is awful and just having so many tantrums. I was so excited when I found out we was expecting another baby because I knew my daughter would be the best big sister and help mummy out but now ı am so nervous about baby number two if my daughter keeps up this behaviour. Do you think this could be because of my pregnancy ? or could it be a phase she is going through? İf anyone else has experienced anything like this I would be so grateful for some advice or answers.

My big baby

I’m having my first baby due in less than 4 weeks. Midwife measurements have been plotted in the centre or slightly above. At 33 weeks I went in with reduced movements needing a scan as baby was just having a quiet day but the scan measured the baby’s head at 36 weeks, abdomen 37+4  legs were 34 and fluid was high so was sent for gestational diabetes screening where results came back negative.

Since then iv had another er growth scan at 35 weeks and obviously gone above the 90th cenfile on my growth chart. Last scan measured baby’s head at 37 +5 abdomen at 40+4 and legs 36. fluids still up. Following this I had a meeting with a consultant who explained all the measurements and asked for family history which is that nobody has had small babies when born early too.

When my mum went overdue then induced with my sister she had a distressing time and ended up stuck with forcep delivery resulting in my birth being Induced on due date and I was a whopping 10lb. Iv been left with the decision to be induced before my due date as the consultant is wondering about shoulder dislocia and having a repeat of my mums labour resulting in the baby being stuck and so on.

I will meet with her and another lady to discuss everything plus a clinical big baby trail to get more info and make a plan. I already felt nervous of this anyway following my first scan… I mean who doesn’t worry that their baby may not squeeze out of that space down there and tear you in two.

Speaking to family and friends they’ve said to go with my Instincts and go ahead with the induction. My own midwife seemed alot more negative and has contradicted alot of what the consultants said and what she’s said really regarding natural and induced labour. Has anyone else had similar, did you go overdue with a big baby. Any induction stories, advice or anything… I’m scared I’m not going to lie… I mean who came up with the stork story where you baby’s got delivered to your door in a little sack.

What to do and where to go?

Hi

Im a married mummy of two, boy aged 5 and a girl aged 2. I work from home for a children’s clothing company part time and would do the odd telemarketing phone calls when the kids are in school and the rest of the days I spend cleaning my house. I know the kids are in school/creche all week so every weekend I try to do something fun with them. Now due to all this corona virus I am no longer able to work as many hours as I would like as I have no child care and my kids are going crazy because they are so bored. What can I do or where can I take them that doesnt cost much money? Everything seems to just cost so much money which I cannot afford now I qm out of work. What do you to keep your children entertained?

When it just all gets too much…

Motherhood and marriage are definitely two battlefields of their own. Some days I can feel like I am on top of the world and got everything under control then others I feel like i am drowning in tears and exhaustion.

I am a work from home mum with a 11 month old baby boy with a husband who works approx 15 hours a day 6 days a week. I am isoalted from my friends as I do not have a car to drive and my family live in another country. Now I am not trying to look for sympathy here or play the violins but my god is it tough.

Some days I feel like I can’t carry on and my mind goes to some pretty dark places wondering if my son would be better off with my mum and dad and that I wasn’t here. Sometimes I dread waking up in the morning because it’s a new day on repeat.

Then other days I can be so motivated, saving up money, focusing on house rennovations and be focusing on work when baby naps.

I think you just got to embrace the bad days as you would the good instead of trying to block them out. Accept the emotions, let the tears flood in and release as tomorrow is a new day. I know I am a strong person to get through this on my own, I just wish others would recognize that sometimes…

Emotional Rollercoaster Going From 1 to 2

Hi mummies,

I am currently 39 weeks pregnant with my second baby, my first child is just 1 year and 4 months old. I fell pregnant with my second child when my first was 6 months old on the first try!

Our second baby was planned and very wanted, but these last fews I have really been feeling emotional that these are the last days of just being a family of 3. These are the last days where I can give my full attention to my daughter, these are the last days I will treasure forever as just a family of 3.

I have been having contractions here and there so I think baby is coming any day now. Yesterday morning when my little girl woke up I went into her room and just gave her a big cuddle with tears rolling down my face. It’s such an emotional time going from one baby to two, It’s almost like a guilty feeling that I have to convince myself this won’t make me love my daughter any less, it just means our hearts will grow even more.

I guess mom guilt is real and you have it about almost everything! How did you mums feel when you was pregnant with your second child and also how did you feel once they arrived?

Returning to school

Hi everyone

Just need a bit of advice from other mummies and to see what you all think about your children returning to school.

I have 3 under 5 my eldest nearly 5 and my youngest just turning two. We have stayed in now for 3 whole months and it has been a crazy wild 3 months. My children fight so much more than they used to which I know is normal as they are together 24/7. They are all ready to have a bit of alone time and 1 to 1 with mummy and daddy. My nursery has reopened over a month ago now but I wasnt comfortable at putting them back in. (My youngest doesnt go to nursery still at home with me) I am thinking of maybe sending them back 1st Of July but I am still so scared of everything going on, but im also going crazy at home and so are they!

What are your thoughts??

Go with the Flow vs Routine Mama

Hi mamas,

I have a 10 month old baby girl and my personality is pretty laid back. With my baby girl I have always had a very relaxed routine since she was born, with breastfeeding she was fed on demand so there was certainly no routine there either. The only thing I kept the same when she was a newborn was her bedtime in the evening, I would aim for about 8-9pm (not that bedtime made a difference as she would be up 2 hours later!)

After around 5 and half months she began sleeping through the night with the odd waking at 3-4am for milk. I go off awake times for naps, so now she’s 10 months I will let her have 2 naps in the day after being awake 3-3.5 hours (whenever she gets cranky and starts rubbing her eyes, the sleepy cues!)

Feeding, I give her x3 bottles with x3 meals, meals being about 2 hours after milk so she will want to eat (breakfast just an hour after milk). I also aim to give her milk before she sleeps so she’s nice and full and relaxed. The one thing I keep the same is her bedtime at night, she will go to bed between 7-7.30pm.

I have a few friends who are total opposites to me and they will have set times for everything, set times for food, naps and bedtime. They often look at me like I’m not doing a good job with my daughter with comments such as, “she must be starving now” or “what time will she wake up from her nap then?” or “Oh i always fed my baby solids straight after their milk I wouldn’t wait”

I don’t like to wake her from a nap unless it’s getting close to her bedtime in the eveing, I just think if a baby is sleeping then they obviously must need it.

I think having some sort of routine is good but not to the point where you have strict times for everything. I guess that works for some people but for me it stresses me out especially when it doesn’t go to plan so I let my baby lead the way.

Do you guys have a strict routine, a routine just for bed and approx nap and feed times, or no routine at all, everything on demand?

Educating our Children to be Anti-Racist

Hi Mummies,

Talking about such a heavy topic such as racism can be very intimidating because I have never experienced it first hand and I don’t want to say the wrong thing that could cause more harm than good. I keep thinking, what can I possibly say as a white priviledged woman on a subject I could never understand? I’ve come to realise that feeling this way is part of the problem, we need to feel comfortable about talking about and addressing the uncomfortable, I as a mummy need to do better.

I was always aware of the corrupt police forces in America and across the world when it comes to racism but in this past week since the tragic death of George Floyd, I have learnt so much.

What I thought was right before, actually isn’t. I want to always educate myself and keep up with this in real time so I can learn how to help and make a difference, however big or small.

As mummies we have the responsibility to bring our children up to be anti-racist. They are the next generation, our hope for change in this world. Here are a few tips I found on the internet on how to educate our children to be anti-racist.

  • Read books that feature families of ALL ethnic backgrounds.
  • Talk about white privilege and social inequities
  • Actively participate in challenging your own racial biases
  • NEVER make excuses for relatives, hold them accountable
  • For white families, teach your child how to listen to Black indigenous people of colour stories.
  • Help children recognize that they do not have to have all of the answers.
  • Raise them Kind. It starts in the home.

For a very long time I never wanted to see people of colour as different, I wanted to see one race. But I was wrong. It does more harm than good thinking this way because if you are not suppose to see the race then you can’t call out racism and you end up with a vicious cycle of ignorance.

As mummy’s we have to always educate ourselves to be better, for we set the example to our children.

The Newborn Bubble of Hell – My birth and newborn story

Hi Mummies,

Now I know I may trigger some angry responses here especially for those who are struggling to concieve, and that is NOT my intention. I know i’m lucky to be able to carry and birth a child and I am forever grateful for that especially as it took me quite some time to fall pregnant, but I am writing this with you guys in mind too, I want to show the TRUTH of motherhood instead of sugar coating the experience like so many mums/ celebrities / influencers do across social media.

Guys, the newborn stage is HARD, you could be lucky and be blessed with a newborn that just eats, sleeps and poops but you do need to be prepared incase that doesn’t happen.

So here’s my story… the TRUTH

I will try and keep this breif so you’re not reading too much content.

Pregnancy

I had a breezy pregnancy, no problems at all and thoroughly enjoyed being pregnant.

Birth

I opted for a planned c-section after fears of low amniotic fluid, I was pregnant throughout the peak of summer in Turkey so it was very difficult to keep these fluids up. Birth wasn’t anything magical, I was the last person to see my baby after my husband, best friend and another friend of ours, BUT i was prepared for this to happen anyway so It was all expected. What I didn’t expect though was the feeling of loneliness and embarassment whilst in theatre.

Baring in mind I gave birth in a country that is not my first language, so Turkish is my second language and my language is limited, especially when it comes to doctor jargon – that’s hard enough to get your head round in english never mind in another language.

The room was SO cold, i was butt naked in a gown that was all open with about 15 men and women around me. They attempted the epidural (spinal block) twice but it wasn’t working. The bed I was on was electric and was able to tip me upside down as though I was doing cartwheels, I remeber my boobs flying out of my gown and my arms were attached to wires and injections so I couldn’t pop myself back in. As if being tipped upside down and around wasn’t embarassing enough my boobs were then flying around all whilst these 15 men and women were joking and laughing and talking amongst themselves about daily life. I just wanted to cry I was getting so upset and felt so alone, I had no idea why I wasn’t going numb and was scared there was going to be a problem if they proceeded even if it did go numb incase it would wear off too quick. Yes that has happened before and they had to inject her with morphine asap! Anyway, after 20 minutes of pure embarassment they had to put me to sleep for the c -section.

When I woke up I could feel the intense pain but that wasn’t my main concern the first thing I said when I woke up was “how is my baby is she ok” in turkish. Hearing the words “Baby is good” made me take a sigh of releif. Then the realisation of the pain kicked in as I was wheeled back to my room, every bump felt as though I was being jabbed in the stomach.

Anyway enough about the birth let’s get down to the newborn stage…

Newborn

I remember looking at my baby girl and my heart was so full, I didn’t know a love like this could exist. BUT this whole thing was so relentless sometimes I wondered when would I get this magical baby bubble feeling that so many mums talk about?

My newborn really was hard work, she barely slept, every nap time was a battle of screaming, rocking playing the hoover sound, I could spend hours doing this for her to only have a 20-30 minute nap. I was EXHAUSTED. I was breastfeeding every 2-3 hours on demand with a husband who worked 6 days a week long days and no family around for help. I just couldn’t catch a break at all and wondered how long this was going to go on for. The nights were long and tiring and there were times I felt like I couldn’t do this anymore. My baby was fussy and whingy, she was very rarely content and happy and I just felt like I wasn’t doing anything right.

It took me about 2-3 months when I eventually felt like I sort of knew what I was doing. It was just a case of her having to grow out of it, people kept making comments like “oh she’s breast fed maybe shes hungry its not filling her enough like formula” but I ignored them, I knew breastmilk was best for her and it was working for us, she would latch and drink amazingly well, that wasn’t the issue at all.

I was told many times “leave the house a mess, just nap when baby naps” It’s not that simple though, when do I find the time to shower? eat? or even just sit and have a hot cup of coffee to feel human?

I am so grateful to have a happy healthy baby girl I really am but I am human and I tell you all this now, you can never be fully prepared for motherhood but each stage comes and goes. This hard time soon passed once she hit 5 and half months she began sleeping through the night and that honestly changed everything for me.

I just wanted to be open and honest about my story and let you know it’s okay to feel this way.

De-stressing as a new mama

Hi there I would love to hear some tips on how you mamas all de-stress. I am half asleep as I am writing this right now because I am so sleep deprived with my 5 week old newborn.

I’ve been told to talk to my partner as much as possible as he is my greatest ally in this learning period of parenthood. I think handling stress helps a lot when you have someone to rely on for sure.

I’ve come to realise that sometimes, it’s not about treating stress, but becoming more effective at preventing it altogether. Sure, my baby will always come up with new ways to prompt anxiety and worry but there are situations and triggers I can become more aware of and spot the signs of before it gets out of hand. One way to train and soothe my mind is to rely on meditation apps that guide me through the process and give me those precious minutes of self-reflection and being present in the given moment. I really enjoy the app Headspace it all really helps me to look at the bigger picture when I get stuck in one space that overwhelms me. I also find keeping my feet on the ground taking deep breaths makes me feel grounded and in control again.

I also find forums really helpful to reach out to other first time moms to get all the hints and tips without the fear of being judged by people you know personally. Like this anonymous mummy blog really!

One thing I know that I am seriously lacking is self care, I never really take any time for myself because I just want to do everything myself. Even when my partner gets up to do a feed I will still lay there awake and will not settle until I can see baby is happy and gone back to sleep. It’s really annoying that I can’t just let go but I am hoping this will change over time as it is all still very new.

Before having a baby my go to destress would be a bath and a book in bed but I am just far too tired to read now, the minute I read a page I am drifting off into dreamland…

How do you mama’s de-stress??

Only Child

Hi Mummies

I am a 29 year old with a 2 year old son. Me and my Husband have been together 12 years and married for 10. We held off having a baby for a while as we both knew it would change our work lives forever and we both love to work. I work full time from home now since my child has been born and my hubby works long days and nights most of the time. As my child is now 2 and half we are just starting to get our life back a little bit now as he is in nursery and is in a good daily routine. My hubby really wants another baby like now but Im not sure I even want one in the future. Every time he mentions it I think starting from the beginning all over again sleepless nights, no date nights, long days, parenting struggles and on top of that now I would also have another child to look after. When I talk to my mum and my friends about it they are all so shocked to hear I dont want another child. What is going on why is it a problem if I just want the one child??? I get ” He cant be an only child he will be weird” or ” You will regret not having another later”. All I want is my little boy I can give him everythig this way and not have to worry about money and can give him all the love in the world. Does anyone just have the one child these days??

Pregnancy loss

Hey mommas, I hope you are all coping well during this crazy time. I just wanted to come on here and share my story of pregnancy loss that happened to me last year.

Though the stats show that miscarriage is very common I still never really thought it would happen to me especially as i had two healthy pregnancies before and heard their heartbeats really early around the 8 week mark.

So I went for an 8 week scan, all excited, preparing to hear the heartbeat and celebrate with my friends and family. Shortly after the wand touched my belly at the ultrasound, the energy in the room just shifted. “Okay we are going to do a vaginal ultrasound as sometimes it can be difficult to pick it up.” I knew straight away that this wasn’t normal, especially as my previous pregnancies you could hear the heartbeat straight away from just the standard ultrasound with the wand on my belly.

After checking again with the vaginal ultrasound, there was still no heartbeat. “I will just get my colleague to just double check over the scan results for you” I began to panic cry and I just knew in my heart that this pregnancy was no longer viable.

The second midwife came in and confirmed the news, “I’m so sorry but unfortunately there is no heartbeat and the pregnancy is no longer progressing” As soon as I heard those words everything turned into a blur. Thank god my husband was there to take in the information for the next steps as I to this day can not tell you the words that were said after that.

It took me a while to grieve for this pregnancy, it’s an experience that people go through differently, it’s greif. It’s so important to take the time you need to heal both mentally and physically.

I still haven’t been able to try again for another baby as I’m still healing, how long did you all wait til you began trying for another baby after your miscarriages?

Do I deserve the chance to be a mum?

Hi I feel like I need to just get things of my chest and some advice from people that actually dont know me. Im 29 now and recently just got married. When I was 18 I had a little girl but her father died when I was just four months pregnant. We didnt plan for a baby but we came to terms with becoming parents at such a young age, but after he died I couldnt go through it on my own and the thought of raising a baby by myself was scary but mainly SAD! All I could think about was him, I cried all the time I never got over this. I decided to give my baby up when she was born I thought she would have a better life with a proper family. Its been over 10 years now and of course I think about this all the time, I think about her what she looks like, if she hates me. My Husband now wants to start trying for a baby but I really cant as much as I would love to be a mum, it doesnt feel right! I mean I gave one child away how could I even deserve a chance to be a mother! I cant talk to my husband about this in so much detail because he tells me what I want to hear that I deserve to be a mum and I was young.

But this is still not an excuse I gave my little girl away and I regret it everyday how could I ever replace her!

Should I Continue To Try For Baby During This Pandemic?

Hello everyone,

I just thought I would pop on quickly for some advice. Me and my husband have a child already who is now 1 years old. We have always wanted 3 children and would like them to be quite close in age so they can grow up together sharing all of their childhood memories at roughly the same stage in their lives.

Although I am pretty concerned if this is a good idea right now with what’s going on with COVID-19? Should we put our baby plans on hold or continue to try and live our lives as the new norm?

I guess there’s so much to consider such as the hospital appointments, giving birth, being at high risk during pregnancy… but then again, this could go on for years and should we really put our lives on hold forever as this is a big decision and one that’s really important to us, to expand our brood.

Please be kind on your thoughts as I know this could get quite heated. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion and I would love to hear it, thanks 🙂

Mothers instinct

My son will be 5 this year and since he turned two he has been hard work and what I mean by that is he has to have things his way, his toys have to be where he left them and if he gives mummy the red block and daddy the blue block and we change these without him looking he goes mad knows exactly who he gave them to. He loves sharks dinosaurs crocodiles all these type of toys but they are not allowed to get wet, if they get on drop of water on he has a breakdown telling me to help him dry his dinosaur he cant be wet. Another example he does not forget and i mean anything he can remember toys or clothes from when he was a baby, you have to follow through what you say to him because be doesnt like change of routine. One of the biggest things is he is shy and I mean extremly shy even with people he knows. When we first meet up with our friends that day he goes shy but in a different way like he will start hitting his head, flicking his ear or talking about something that happened years ago, its his way of getting through the shyness. I know deep down there is something to all of this but alot of people tell me he will grow out of it its a phrase but Im certain its not. Has anyone elses children been through anything else like this?
