April Fool’s Day Edible Soap

April Fool's Day Edible Soap

My hubby has been hooked on making his own soap ever since he bought a few handmade bars at our local market earlier this year. You can get all the supplies online, and my silly side has always wanted to pour melted candies into a soap mold! April Fool’s Day seemed like the perfect opportunity to use it for a little prank, and I just know that my son will get a big kick out of eating “soap”.

With so much emphasis on hygiene and hand washing right now, you’ve likely had discussions with your kids about how truly important washing your hands is for everyone to stay healthy. This being so top of mind for families everywhere right now, we thought why not add some fun to your day and put smiles on some faces at the same time?

With all of the fun bath trends, there are many soaps available that actually do look like candy, so if you decide to play a little trick on your own kiddos, just make sure they are old enough to understand that they should NEVER actually eat soap. Ever!

April Fool's Day Edible Soap

That being said, how fun would it be to walk into the room with a bar of this candy “soap” in hand, and just take a big giant bite out of it in front of the kids. I can only imagine the look on my son’s face! It would be extra fun to ask if they would like to try some too – because it tastes delicious! Obviously at the end, you will have to let them in on the little secret. April Fool’s! It’s actually melted candy that we poured into a soap mold. GOTCHA! There are many approaches you could take with this Fools’ Day prank, and we would love to hear your story in the comments if you decide to make your own candy soap, or if you have any great ideas about other ways to use it for April Fool’s.

April Fool's Day Edible Soap

Oh, and if your husband cusses, you could threaten to wash his mouth out with “soap”, and he probably wouldn’t mind! If you need other ideas for April Fools’, check out this French fish game, or these cereal treat bowls. This mini lunch prank is adorable too!

what you need:

April Fool's Day Edible Soap

• Microwave (not pictured)
• Microwave-safe bowls
• Candy melts
• Soap molds
• Spoon

how-to:

April Fool's Day Edible Soap
Step 1
Melt your first candy color in a microwave-safe bowl in 30 second increments at 50% power, or follow the directions on your bag of candy melts. Stir the candy in between each 30 seconds. Do not overheat, as that will ruin the consistency of the candy. Pour the melted candy into one of your soap molds. You will most likely need to use the spoon to push the melted candy into the corners and crevices, and then use the spoon to smooth out the top.
April Fool's Day Edible Soap
Step 2
Allow the candy to harden completely in the mold. This may take a couple hours. Once it has hardened, pull the sides of the mold away from the candy, and then flip the mold over and gently shake and push the “soap” bar out of the mold.
April Fool's Day Edible Soap
Step 3
Use your candy soap to make the kids believe you’re eating soap for April Fools’ Day! Just don’t store the candy in your linen closet with the real soap!

How Are You Keeping Your Kids Entertained? HELP!

HELP! how on earth are you guys keeping your kids entertained? I know home is the safest place for our children right now and I wouldn’t wish them to be anywhere else, but JEEZ, it is TOUGH!

I have a 2 year old, 5 year old and a 10 year old at home and as my husband is a key worker in the police force I am at home alone to be their teacher, entertainer, cooker, cleaner you name it.

I am trying to draw up a routine timetable for the kids to try my best to make them feel like there is structure to all of this madness. During my 2 year olds morning nap I will ensure the older kids can sit down and concentrate on the more challenging parts of study. Then the rest I am just winging it to be honest through educational play.

I follow the montesseri method when it comes to my youngest and have done since she was a little baby. Our rule of thumb in the house is that every toy has to have some kind of task, if it has batteries it doesn’t come in the house. Battery toys are all well good at first but my children get so bored of them once they’re over them flashing and playing sounds at them. Toys with tasks keep them entertained for so much longer and makes them feel satisfied when completed! Plus it’s great for their motor skills 🙂

I would love to hear your tips on fun games to play with the kids and how you are educating your kids through play.

I hope everyone is staying safe out there and sane in lockdown. Sending all my love <3

Bubblegum Easter Eggs

Bubblegum Easter Eggs

Currently, I am guessing that our Easter “gatherings” may look a little different this year, and one of the best ways to get through trying times is with a sense of humor. These bubblegum blowing Easter eggs are playful and add a little whimsy to any celebration – big or small! This little craft may not even require a trip to the store, if you already have some plastic eggs, a little paint, and some pink water balloons. I made some Bubblegum Skull Cupcake Toppers for Halloween one year, to balance creepy and cute. Although Easter is already pretty sweet, I was inspired to recreate the bubblegum idea with eggs. Add a face, fill them up with Easter treats, and close the egg on the end of a water balloon “bubble”, and you have a bubblegum-blowing egg!

Bubblegum Easter Eggs

If you are looking for some more fun egg ideas, look no further! Try these joke Easter eggs, pool party eggs, this Georgia peach egg, or some Mod Podge fruit eggs! I also love these sunny side up eggs, veggie stamped Easter decorations, rainbow Easter egg place settings, and this floral garland made from egg cartons. You’ll also need some glitter egg cups to hold all of your beautiful creations!

Bubblegum Easter Eggs

We’re all looking for good ways to continue celebrating in our homes, so it might be fun to invite your kids to a baking party with these whisk invitations. Try these darling ideas for decorating Easter cupcakes, and put together some brunch citrus baskets for a little snack break.

Bubblegum Easter Eggs

what you need:

Bubblegum Easter Eggs

• Large Easter eggs (preferably with a flat bottom, so they stand up)
• Small paintbrush
• Toothpicks
Folk Art acrylic paint (black, pink melon, and bow colors of your choice)
• Pink water balloons
• Balloon pump
• Egg filler (Easter grass, candy, treats, temporary tattoos, etc.)
• Bowtie pasta
• Sponge brush
• Tacky glue

how-to:

Bubblegum Easter Eggs

Step 1
Consider the crack in the egg to be the location for a mouth, and use that as a guide for the placement of eyes. Use a toothpick to paint short, wide “u” shapes for eyes. Add two to three lashes on each end. Below the eyes, and out to each side a bit, use a paintbrush to add two small circle cheeks in “pink melon”. After the cheeks have dried, add some black dots (freckles) on and around the cheeks using a toothpick. Allow to dry.

Bubblegum Easter Eggs

Step 2
Use a balloon pump to blow up a pink water balloon. Leave enough room to pinch a bit of the balloon at the top (called the “drip point” if you Google the anatomy of a balloon), and tie the pinched (drip point) end together with the lip and a bit of the neck. This will eliminate that darker spot in the middle of the balloon! Set aside.

Bubblegum Easter Eggs

Step 3
Fill your Easter egg with goodies, such as grass, candy and treats, tattoos, small toys, etc.

Bubblegum Easter Eggs

Step 4
Paint bowtie pasta noodles in the colors of your choice, and use tacky glue to attach them to the head, either in the middle, or to the side. You may want to leave some eggs plain. Allow to dry.

Bubblegum Easter Eggs

Step 5
Place the tied part of your balloon in the crack of the egg where the mouth should be located (under and between the eyes). Close the egg with the tied balloon piece pinched between the two pieces. It should look like your egg is blowing a bubblegum bubble.

Now, your eggs are ready to play hide-and-seek! Happy Easter!
