4 Party Projects to Make with Duck Tape

Fancy a duct tape project? Duct tape is becoming more and more popular recently due to the amount of colours and patterns that you can now get! It is so versatile, literally meaning that the possibilities are endless. There are so many incredible things you can make with it!

4 Party Projects to Make with Duck Tape

Duck Tape Jar

You Will Need

How to Make

1. Start off by deciding exactly where you want your duct tape to go. Once you have done this, begin wrapping the duct tape all the way around the jar. Allow the duct tape to overlap a little and then cut.

Top Tip

You don't have to use just one strip of duct tape to decorate your glass jar with. Why not use 2 or 3? Or why not cover the whole jar? No matter what you do, it will look very effective!

2. To create some mini bunting to wrap around your jar, you will need a piece of kraft card, a pencil, a ruler and a something to cut them out with. I would suggest using a scalpel as you can get sharp, clean cuts.

Draw out 7 rectangles that are 3 cm x 2.5 cm. To work out the point for your triangle, all you need to do is divide 2.5 cm by 2 which is 1.25 cm. This will help you to draw a perfectly sized triangle every time!
Once you have finished this, cut out the triangles from the card and then hole punch each one with 2 holes.

3. Decorate your triangles using some small letter stamps and an ink pad, stamping 1 letter on each triangle to spell out the word ‘British’.

Thread string or twine through the holes in the triangles to form the mini bunting.

4. Add to the look of your jar by decorating the lid as well. Remove the lid from the jar and separate it into 2 pieces. Use 2 strips of duct tape to cover the flatter piece of the lid and then trim it down so that the 2 pieces can fit back together.

Duck Tape Placemat

You Will Need

How to Make

1.Using a piece of thick card is essential for this make as it will help to create a strong, sturdy placemat. This particular piece of card is kraft card and has a gsm of 280.

2. Cut strips of duct tape big enough to go across the width of the card. With the first strip, cut more than you need so that it hangs over the edges of the card. You can use this to help keep the card in place as you start to put more strips of duct tape on.

3. Make sure to overlap each strip of duct tape so that the card underneath is no longer exposed. This will also help to stop the card from getting wet, say if you were to spill something onto the placemat.

4. Once you have completed one side, trim down the excess tape and repeat on the other side of the card.

5. To seal all of the edges, use some more duct tape so that it can be folded over the front and back of the placemat.

Duck Tape Crown

You Will Need

How to Make

1. Before using your duct tape, start by measuring your head or the persons head that you are making the crown for by using a tape measure. Measuring the circumference of the head will help you to work out how long your strips of duct tape will have to be.

To measure the circumference of the head, wrap the tape measure around so that it sits in the middle of the forehead and just above both ears. Wrap the tape around gently so that once the crown is made, it will sit comfortably. If you wrap it tightly, the crown will be tight.

2. You will need to use 2 strips of duct tape on both the front and back. Lay down your first strip of tape, sticky side up. Cut your next strip of tape and lay this slightly on top of your first one, again sticky side up.
Repeat this step again, but with sticky side down so that the sticky sides on the top and bottom bond together.

Top Tip

If your duct tape keeps moving around on the surface you are working on, just use a little bit of sellotape to hold it in place.

3. Pinking shears are great for creating a decorative edge on your crown!

4. Using a pen and a ruler, draw triangles onto the duct tape and then cut with either a pair of scissors or carefully with a ruler and scalpel. This will create the points on the crown.

5. To bring it all together, use a hole punch to cut out 6 holes (3 holes on each edge). Thread the ribbon through the holes and tie into a bow.

6. Why not take your crown one step further and decorate it with stick on gemstones. This will make your crown look spectacularly exquisite!

Duck Tape Flag

You Will Need

How to Make

  1. For this make, use a piece of A4 card. Use card that has a higher gsm, it is essential that the card is quite thick as this is what will help the flag to keep its shape.

2. To begin your flag, cut strips of blue duct tape that are big enough to go across the length of the card.

3. Once you have covered one side of the card with tape, trim any excess and repeat on the other side.

4. Using 2 strips of white duct tape, stick them down diagonally to create a cross shape.

5. Stick down 2 more pieces of white duct tape over the diagonal cross you have just made. 1 piece going horizontally and the other vertically.

6. Using the Union Jack duct tape, stick down 1 piece horizontally and the other vertically (on top of the white duct tape that you’ve just stuck down).

7. When making the smaller strips of red for the union jack, you will need to cut off a small piece of red duct tape and then cut that in half. Overlap it slightly onto the union jack tape and draw a dotted line to mark where you need to cut the tape down.

Top Tip

You will find that the red tape will need to be cut at an angle, so instead of guessing that angle just stick down more tape than you need. The tape underneath will show up through the red tape and show you exactly where you need to cut an angle!

IMG_0648_2
8. Trim down any excess tape once you have stuck down all of the red strips.

IMG_0650_2
9. To be able to hang up your Union Jack, you will need some twine, sellotape and some more blue duct tape.
Stick down the edges of the twine using some sellotape, this will hold it in place whilst going over the top of it with the blue duct tape. Using blue duct tape will also help the twine to blend into the back of your flag.

And there you have it!
