Have you ever killed a houseplant? How about a cactus? Well, guess what: they’re coming back this Halloween as cute ghosts!
This cute and easy craft is the perfect way to celebrate Halloween. Not only are these cacti fun decorations, they’d also make the perfect cheeky gift for your friends with not-so-green thumbs. Kids will have fun drawing their faces, adding spikes, and decorating the containers.
Reuse old sheets and gather some toothpicks and stuffing to make a boo-tiful cactus garden. This Halloween craft is super easy, I promise! Happy Halloween!
What You Need
- Printable Ghost Cactus Template (download here)
- Old sheet or white cotton scraps
- Toothpicks
- Pebbles
- Planter (or wooden box, jar, vintage cup, etc)
- Black or white tinny pebbles (or soil, chickpeas, black socks, etc)
- Needle and thread
- Washable marker
- Marker
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Stuffing
How-To
Step 1
Download and print ghost templates. Cut them out and trace the shapes onto your white cotton fabric. Also, trace one smiling face onto each ghost. Pin them (right sides together) and stitch the ghosts all the way around, leaving the bottom edge open. Trim all the seam allowance to ¼” and clip the curves. Turn the ghosts right side out and stuff.
Step 2
Sew a running stitch along the ghosts’ bottom edges. Then, pull the thread to gather and close the opening, pulling the excess inside the body, hidden.
Step 3
You can leave the face as-is just traced with a permanent marker, or embroider faces with black thread. Use french knots for the eyes and sew backstitches (or fly stitches) for the eyebrows and mouth. Sew tiny straight stitches for the teeth.
Step 4
Gather an old wooden box, cup, or any container you like and fill it up with pebbles, soil, chickpeas, or a pair of cozy black socks. Anything that will hold up your ghost cactus works!
Step 5
Now cut toothpicks into short pieces, about 1/4” long. Hot glue them onto the cactus as spikes.
Step 6
Make some gravestones! Write “RIP” or the name of your dead cactus onto some pebbles. Place the gravestones and ghost cacti into the containers.
Your dead cactus is all ready for Halloween. Enjoy!!
