How to Make Slime Pies

It’s been far too long since our last slime project, so we’re so excited to be back today with this brand new one! This might just be the cutest slime project we’ve ever made, although these honeybee slime favors are a close second. If your kids love play food and making imaginary recipes, they’ll love combining that with this colorful Mod Podge slime!

We always have lots and lots of Mod Podge on hand, which comes in very handy when we have the sudden urge to whip up a few slime recipes. And that’s the beauty here – make a few different batches of different colors to look like different magical fillings inside the tart shells! Just grab some beads, sequins, and gems from you craft cupboard and start decorating these slime pastries – what “flavors” will you create? How about a silly slimey sequin tart or pastel pink slime pie? Keep reading for the Mod Podge slime recipe and full instructions below!

Step 1
We’ll start by making the tart shells! Pick out your colors of clay – we suggest using the Soft or Kids variety here so that it’s easy to roll out. Pick one color or take a few and twist them together. Whatever you choose, roll the clay flat on your work surface (we laid down a piece of wax paper first to prevent dust getting into the clay) using your acrylic roller.

Step 2
Once the clay is rolled flat and slightly larger than your tart tin, gently set it into the tin and use your fingers to press the clay down into each of the scalloped edges. Use a craft knife to carefully trim off any excess. Repeat in additional colors.

Step 3
Bake your clay tarts in the oven following the directions on the packaging and let cool completely.

Step 4
Time to make your slime! In a bowl (or empty plastic container) mix 1 cup of warm water with 1 Tbsp Borax. Stir to combine.

Step 4
In a second bowl, mix together 1/2 cup Mod Podge Matte and a few drops of Folk Art Acrylic Paint. Stir together completely.

Step 5
Pour the water and Borax solution into the colored Mod Podge and stir to combine. Drain off the excess water and use your hands to knead the slime for a minute to ensure it’s fully combined.

Step 6
Repeat this process with different colors of paint for each of your tarts! Each batch is just the right amount for one 4″ tart shell. Put the slime into the tarts to play with but make sure to store in an air-tight plastic bag or sealable container so that it doesn’t dry out when not in use.
