We have a handful of all-time favorite craft projects, and making pom poms will forever be included on that list – a look through the blog archives will show you just how much we love them! We’re always experimenting with new techniques, tools, and methods for making different kinds of pom poms and the process is always so much fun. We recently tried out the Pom Pom Kit from our friends at Purl Soho and we’ve fallen head over heels for it!
The neon Plexiglass tools are showstoppers at first glance and after working with them, we were incredibly pleased with how easy they are to work with, for both experienced pom pom makers and newbies as well. Although we’ve made countless pom poms in the past, for whatever reason we hadn’t yet used a trim guide. They are game-changers! Along with the super informative booklet included in the kit that details how exactly how many times to wrap yarn around the U-shaped maker, you’re bound to achieve amazing results.
Of course, the kit includes the most beautiful color scheme of yarn to get started on your first round of pom poms. After you’ve used them up, use whatever yarn you already have in your stash in the same way, adjusting slightly for varying thicknesses of yarn. We had so much fun making these pom pom flowers and pets with kids at a recent get-together. Older kids can make their own pom poms and then glue felt and googley eye details to make these adorable kittens and bunnies. Or make a whole bouquet of flowers to give as a gift this holiday season! Littler ones will likely need some help with the process but they’re sure to be proud of their finished creations.
If you’ve ever admired multi-colored or patterned pom poms on Pinterest and wondered “how did they get it to look like that?” you’re in for a real treat. Purl Soho’s instructional booklet goes over multiple ways to add pattern to your poms, including example photos, so that you’ll never wonder again!
We had a blast crafting pom poms with this kit and know you will too! Purl Soho’s colorful kit makes the perfect gift for the creative person in your life, young or old. Or treat yourself and decorate your house for the holidays with a pom pom garland!
