Friendships and Becoming a Mummy

It’s quite sad really, but unfortunately true… once you become pregnant or have a baby of your own you will notice some of your friends (those without children) will back away.

I used to think it was because were no longer on the same stage in life, but my best friend had her children a good few years ago now before I had my first child and this has never effected us, in fact it made us even closer.

The friends you would go to the gym with, go to parties with, go on active trips together with would slowly fizzle away. The coffee dates you would plan together are cancelled, messages are ignored or replied to when its too late, and you just no longer have anything in common anymore. Sometimes I feel like the odd texts i’d receive such as “need a catch up soon, hope you’re okay” are just a way to validate they’ve attempted to keep in contact when in reality, actions speak louder than words.

Have you mummies experienced this with your friends? have you lost anyone during the transition to motherhood? Why do you think this is?
