Paper Plate Black Cats

Paper Plate Black Cats

Some folks may avoid black cats, especially around Halloween, for fear that they bring bad luck. We’ve yet to be convinced though so today we’re celebrating one of Halloween’s cutest creatures with this super simple craft! Paper plate crafts are one of our favorites, partly because of how quick and easy they are to make – take a look through the archives to get some ideas!

This project is especially easy if you start with black paper plates like we did. Using stickers as the details for the facial features make this a no-mess activity perfect for little ones or classroom crafting. The finished cats can be taped onto a wall to form a cute backdrop for your Halloween party. Or if you plan on dressing up as a cat for Halloween, you could even cut holes where the eyes are and attach an elastic or popsicle stick to turn these into masks! Whatever you decide, these black cats are the purrr-fect Halloween craft – keep reading for the instructions below.

how-to:

Step 1
Use a pencil to draw the shape of a cat’s head on the back of the plate. You can eyeball this or take a look on Pinterest or another online resource for some inspiration and reference points. We ended up drawing three different style of cat heads, but you can make yours all different if you like!

Step 2
Cut out the cat shape following the pencil line, recycling the cut-offs. Once you have this shape, you can easily trace this onto additional plates so that you don’t have to draw each one from scratch.

Step 3
To make the face, we used a combination of colored round stickers. For the eyes, we used either yellow or orange stickers and then added a smaller white sticker on top. Then use the white paint marker to draw a simple mouth – we made ours look a little pouty, like an upside-down Y, to give a spooky Halloween feel. Finally, cut a pink sticker in half and attach directly above the mouth to look like a cute pink nose.
