While walking through the back-to-school aisle with my son the other day, I noticed an adorable hopscotch board on the floor. I remember drawing hopscotch with sidewalk chalk on the pavement back in elementary school and was excited to see that kids are still familiar with this classic recess game. I have always wanted to make some kind of hopscotch cookies for an after school treat, a playdate in the park, or back-to-school party, so when I spotted some number sprinkles at the craft store, I knew it was time to fulfill my cookie dreams!
My “little” girl just started high school, but if she were still in kindergarten, I would definitely host a party in the park – with sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, hula hoops, bubbles, and of course – these hopscotch cookies! I even found some chocolate “rocks” at the candy shop, to make your hopscotch boards more authentic. I love a good old-fashioned gathering where kids are playing together, and bringing out the classics!
what you need:
- White frosting & food coloring
- Small bowls
- Knife or spreading utensil
- Square vanilla alphabet cookies
- Number sprinkles (1-7)
- Chocolate rocks
how-to:
Mix your choice of food colors into small bowls of white frosting, and spread seven different colors onto your square cookies.
Arrange your frosted cookies into a hopscotch board on a paper plate. The pattern is 1-2-1-2-1.
Place a number on the middle of each cookie, starting with “1” at the bottom, and working your way up, as well as left to right. Number 7 should be at the top.Add a chocolate rock to the plate, and your hopscotch cookies are ready for a playdate at the park!
